How to enter without sending message in Teams

The correct behavior, in Microsoft Teams would be to have an option so that we can set the default shortcut to send a message, or to add a new line.

AFAIK all the messaging apps have this feature but Microsoft Teams, we shouldn't even request and vote for a change.

I hope you all agree with me and that you are so nice to vote, or at least to add a comment on this feature request.

I don't personally have an issue with the current system, but it would be nice for people to alter that setting if they so choose.

One spot that doesn’t work well (anymore) is bulleted lists. If you shift-enter then * to start the list, you can’t add more bullets unless you open the full editor. If you shift-enter in the list you get a new line for that bullet, but if you hard enter it sends the message with one bullet.

Used to work that hard enter added a bullet but another enter got you out of the list. A third enter would post the message.

EDIT: they fixed it!

I know there's the shift+enter, but why I cannot configure it? I want to press enter to add a new line and ctrl+enter to send a message, like it's set on slack, telegram, element, signal, etc.

level 1

Open the editor window and enter will not send.

I didn't know about the editor, thanks

Upvoted. Both here and at Feedback. Good idea.

Me too, just sending the message is what I want most of the time so I want the least friction there. When I need multiple lines (less common than single line messages) there is shift+enter or the editor.

level 1

Just press ctrl+shift+x Put it in edit mode.

Yeah, I had two occurences today alone. One by me and one by a colleague.

I usually don't forget to press SHIFT + ENTER, but just having the option to change the default behaviour would be welcome.

Did you ever hit Enter, thinking of a new line in Microsoft Teams and send a half prepared message. If then this article is for you. It’s very normal that you will have to add multiple lines in your messages.

Some people uses a different text editor to type the long message and copy paste everything to avoid sending partial messages.

But you have several ways to add new line in Microsoft Teams chat software.

1) Usage of SHIFT+ENTER

You can use SHIFT+ENTER to enter the new line in textbox when you composing a message. And this seems so easy as it’s just holding an extra key.

But what if we forget to hold the SHIFT button and hit the ENTER, oops the message is gone. It’s annoying to delete a message after we sent to a person, the other person may have a wrong impression.

So our next solution comes very handy in this case

2) Usage of Format button (the first button with an icon of ‘A’)

You have to press the button ‘A’ with a brush icon, and it will open a rich text editor that look like a comment text box in some websites.
You can write whatever you want with the help of limited formatting option. For example, you highlight some text with color, and make the main parts in bold etc.
