That depends entirely on what your settings are.  First off, 'Render' is typically used to describe finalizing changes made in a movie sequence using an editor of some sort and transcoding them into a format that can be uploaded to YouTube or whatever or just viewed on a computer.  Render speed in this case depends on how much modification you've done to the original, what the program is, what your hardware is and what your final format is.

I shoot in 4K typically, review the images on one of several Macs that are between 4 and six years old, use Premiere Pro and typically output to Vimeo.  It takes no time at all to review the files, actually rendering in Premiere Pro might take 10 minutes and it might take 2 hours depending on what manipulations I've done.  Newer Macs would probably cut that down somewhat.

So you need to be a bit more specific.

I currently have an i7 8700 32 gigs of Ram and it takes me about 25 minutes to render a 4K video that’s 10 minutes long. I’m only adding text to the video nothing crazy. I just purchased an alienwear R10 with the Ryzen 5950x 128gigs of Ram and the nvidia 2080. In hopes of drastically cutting down render time. Does anyone know how long it takes to render a 10 minute 4K video on this kind of a setup?

Also my render times were super long on my old setup but also it crashed every time I used it so I figured I needed to invest in something more equipped.

Hello noahthomas,

but even I know that a 3 minute 4K video should not take 24 hours to export.

It might.

First of all, I just created a FAQ for those having the same trouble as you. Please read it and see what you think: FAQ: How do I speed up rendering, exporting, or encoding?

My evaluation for why it might be taking a long time to export your rather short project:

  1. Hardware considerations
    1. CPU: encoding is a CPU intensive process.
      1. Consider that your processor might be insufficiently powerful for e

Not sure if I have put this in the right category but seeing as rendering is mainly CPU intensive I went with that. My question is how long does it take you to render your 4k footage?

I'm on a new purpose build for video editing (build in sig) and wondering if my render times are abnormally slow for the build or if that's just how long it takes?!?

Using premiere pro CC, for a 1 minute film in 4k rendered in a 1080p timeline with 2 fairly heavy magic bullet looks applied, one LUT and some titling it takes me approximately 20 minutes.

Maybe that's fast, i don't know, my only reference point is my previous computer which was a sandybridge and would have taken a couple hours at least.

Anyway interested to hear others experience with 4k processing.

Thanks ss202sl - I read that before i went for a Ryzen build - I was swithering but Ryzen still turned out cheaper for me than the 7700k by sourcing a second hand chip. I'm hoping to hear from peoples actual experience of rendering and encoding 4k.

So ive always used premiere pro with my m14x r2 alienware and being older pc obviously rendering took awhile. I recently just got rx580/i5 7400 build and rendered 1.04 minutes of 4k in 4.57 seconds with da vinci resolve 15. I personally thought that was awesome for a ok build. Once i put premiere on new pc i will render same vid and update render time. Try resolve i think its quicker

the issue was simple. I updated premiere pro to the 2018 version, this seems to be optimised better for multi threaded processors and it seems to utilise my GTX 1080 Ti better. Prior to this I was using CC 2014. The old version of CC seemed to only utilise processor and GPU by about 30%, 5% max, respectively. Now CPU reaches 100%, GPU can get up to 50%. I also had both render max quality and render max depth. These features are essential for certain footage when you do your final export but not necessary if you just want a quick export. the same 1 min clip took approximately 5 minutes. Massive improvement. Yes Resolve is quicker but less capable.

How long does it take to encode 4K video?

For example, a two-hour movie in 4K resolution can take more than 10 hours to transcode. Factor in the time needed to transcode an entire library of films, and video providers could spend weeks or months converting content for on-demand streaming.

How long does it take to render a 1 hour video?

In general, an hour long 1080P video should take 20 minutes to 1 hour. Anything longer than that, upgrade your gear if video is important to you.

How much time does video rendering take?

For an hour-long video, render time could total between an hour and eight hours, depending on the video's complexity and the hardware being used. But for a CGI-heavy movie like Shrek, render time could take 5,000,000 hours, which was actually the case for the Pixar movie. That's equivalent to roughly 571 years.

Why does it take so long to export 4K?

CPU: encoding is a CPU intensive process. Consider that your processor might be insufficiently powerful for encoding 4K footage at the rate you expect. Consider also that you may not have multiple processors as many computers do.
