What camera do streamers use Reddit

Hey everyone! I am looking for a webcam/camera that can give the look and quality of a DSLR but isn't a DSLR lol.I actually own a couple Canon DSLRs that could work, but again, not really what I'm looking for.I've heard good things about the Lumina, Elgato Facecam, OBSBOT 4K webcam, but haven't found anything that really stands out yet. Does anyone have anything that they absolutely love or know of something?

Edit: I ended up going with the Elgato Facecam. It's a solid choice, and you can get a pretty solid image from it. Still does not really compare to DSLR quality. Thanks everyone for sharing some ideas!

I have a couple of Sony A5100 that I picked up for $250 and $300 respectively. They do exactly what I need in the lighting I have between my two setups. There are better cameras, but if you can find them for a good price on the used market, it's hard to beat the A5100. I love the pop up screen so I can glance up and see what's going through on the cam, especially if I'm in a full screen game and my Stream Manager isn't the top window on my 2nd monitor.

I did use a Canon HF20 camcorder for a while and it was a noticeable jump in quality from my C920, but that's a camcorder that came out in 2008. It does 1080i instead of 1080p. I dropped mine and it broke, but I recently just bought another on eBay for $100 for my kid to use for making YouTube videos. Flexibility to do both clean HDMI and function as a video camera is a nice touch.

Sony a5100. They're discontinued, but you can still get them on eBay/Craigslist/Gumtree for around $200-250 with a 16-50mm kit lens. Add a $20 battery replacer kit, a microHDMI to HDMI cable, and a capture device, and you're good to go.

Avoid Canon. They tend to have baked-in OSD elements on the HDMI output, and the 'EOS utility' can kind-of make them work as a webcam over USB, but the quality is VERY low when run that way... you'd be better off with a c920.

I’ve been looking into getting a camera for streaming and when I’ve seen the top streamers showcase their set up, they usually have a mirrorless camera. Then when I search on r/twitch for recommendations, I only see Logitech C922 Pro or other webcams in the thread. I’ve personally used that one for work before, and I thought the quality looked subpar compared to the top streams I watch.

Is it only the cost that puts people off of recommending it or is there something else that I’m missing?

Note: I’m not really familiar with cameras, so I’m just talking about cameras that look like this compared to webcams.

Edit: Also, any suggestions for a good streaming camera for 1080p 60fps - preferably under $600, but wouldn't mind under $2,000 if it's a good value (e.g. 4K, 60fps, other stuff, etc.) would be great! I'm looking for a r/BuyItForLife kind of suggestion.

Unless you're ridiculously attractive, focus on the entertainment portion. As long as the camera can capture your facial reactions then you're good. A laptop webcam can do that.

My focus is on a soft voice, some comedy, and gameplay. I felt much more free once I took the camera away. It's probably the one thing you don't need unless you're a very reactive person and your face shows it.

Look at trolden, the hearthstone YouTube content creator. His clips are sometimes off people with bad quality, but you can still see their expressions and feel their pain.

I suggest you get a cheap camera and don't go for the best until you need it. But this suggestion is based off of not knowing what your stream content will be.

A Sony a5100. Great camera, doesn't overheat if you're just using the HDMI out (will overheat if you record to the SD card on-camera after about 10 minutes, but I've used HDMI-out only for a 37 hour stream with no problems). Can get them used for around $200 on Craigslist/eBay with the 16-50mm zoom kit lens. The next upgrade would be an a6300 (avoid the a6100, it has issues!).

DO NOT BUY A BRIO. They look great on paper, but I have two sitting on my shelf that I've just given up on. Useless little basket case pieces of crap. Video glitching into freezing, overheating, and the video quality is worse than a c920. Tested on multiple systems with different USB host controllers. So sad as I was super-hype when they were announced. Looked like everything I wanted/needed out of a webcam. But they're miserable, horrible little junkboxes.
