Joycon not charging when attached Reddit

Any one know how to fix my left switch controller not charging? from NintendoSwitch

As the title says, my left joycon doesn't charge anymore when my system is on. I've tried the following suggestions already:

check if controller/system is dirty

re-synchronized both joycons

power cycle of system

reset of system

What happens is that sometimes it starts charging again, but after a couple of minutes its not charging anymore. Anyone else have this problem?

Nintendo switch right joycon not charging but works when connected to the console after analogue stick change. from consolerepair
Why my switch won’t charge joycon from SwitchPirates

Hello, my left joycon is no charging at all. The only way for it to work is to be connected to the switch itself in handheld. I can’t update it due to it being at low battery all of the time. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I purchased my Nintendo Switch almost a month ago at Walmart. Everything was going just fine with my console until last weekend when I was playing my console for not even an hour while docked and a popup message said the console is overheating or too hot something along those lines and it had to go into sleep mode. This same thing happened the next day, so this happened twice. I noticed today when I received a message at the top left corner on my console that the battery was low (Joy con battery, not console battery). I thought this was odd since I always like to keep my console plugged in most of the time even while playing. I play my switch mostly handheld, and I keep my console charged directly to the console, not docked. Anyways, I finally received a message that my joy cons fully depleted. So, I connected the joy cons to the console, and I plugged the power cord directly to the console for a few hours. I went to check on it and the right joy con was still fully depleted and the left joy con was low and on the way to full depletion. I tried taking my Switch back to Walmart for an exchange and because I had it 8 days past their 15 day return policy they wouldn't let me. I am in rage at this point. Thankfully, I bought extended warranty at Walmart when I bought the Switch, but I really don't want to send it in for repair and be without it during that process. I went out and bought a Joy Con Charging Grip. It seems to be just fine charging with an external charging source but both Joy Cons will not charge on the console when it plugged in, it doesn't matter if it's plugged in through the dock or directly to the console there is no charge. The console battery still charges just fine which I think is very odd. Is there anyone with the same or similar problem that can save me the trouble sending it in for repair? Much appreciated!

I couldn't find a solution that worked for me on Google, so I thought I'd put this out there: My left joycon wouldn't charge properly and always stopped charging when I didn't hold the Switch in a certain way. Loose connection somehow. Resyncing, rebooting, updating the joycons.. nothing worked.

I replaced my left thumbstick a few weeks ago, so I figured it probably had something to do with that. Someone on iFixit had the same problem and fixed it by opening the joycon and reconnecting the battery cable.

I didn't even have to do that, I only retightened the screws holding the casing together. Fixed the issue straight away.

So maybe try that before buying a new joycon/battery.
