Why are G wagons so popular Reddit

For starters, the car just looks like a piece of shit. It looks like a big ass fridge on wheels going down the road with zero aerodynamics. Don't even get me started on the gas mileage smfh.

The drive of the car is absolutely amongst some of the worst in the modern era of vehicles. The steering is shit and the suspension is utterly atrocious coming from a brand like Mercedes. The interior too is not even luxury, you literally get a more luxurious interior from a brand like Honda.

The range rover is the only car a person with a fixed head would get at that price, you get a car 100x more luxury, more features, better off roading, better for family/storage and above all just more classy.

The new gwagon is better than old ones but still isn't worth the price. If you're a proper human with a working mind then you would never get that dumb suv over the likes of a range rover (if you're in the market for a luxury SUV).

TIL the Mercedes-Benz G-Class was developed as a result of a suggestion to develop a military vehicle by the Shah of Iran, who at the time was a significant shareholder of the company. from todayilearned

So for backstory I live in the USA, I can afford to buy a well spec G63 at MSRP or a lightly used one with a dealer markup 5-15k usd.

I walked into the dealership with no knowledge of what’s going on in the Mercedes world and was shocked to see a new g63 in dark green listed for $399,000. Window sticker was like 160 something but they said I’m not taking on home without spending 400k. I’m very well off for myself but no way can I afford a 400k car to daily drive. They also said I can’t order one anymore. Can someone give me some insight on what the deal is?

I plan to buy a G-Class this spring/winter, is there anything I need to know about them ? Apart from the obvious or well known stuff. from cars

I really wonder why people buy G-Wagon to drive it for daily commute. Ten years ago, no one was paying attention to G-Wagon. All of a sudden it became cool. I asked them why? No answer

New G wagons cost more than a used 720s performance now from cars

I see a lot of them around. But whenever I see a used one for sale (even a 2005 non-AMG one, for example) they're always like $40k+. Is there anything more to this other than them being "status symbols"?

Why is the G-Class used by so many celebrities and why do celebrities like it so much? from mercedes_benz

Like, I get why most SUVs exist. For example:

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Cadillac Escalade, and Lexus LX are made for luxury.

The Lamborghini Urus is made for performance and offroading.

The Tesla Model X is made for luxury and performance.

But where does the G-Wagon fit in? I see so many of these YouTubers flex (🤮) by having them in their driveway. It looks too fancy and expensive to be an off-roader, but its interior looks too basic to be a luxury car.

What function is it actually meant to serve?
