The remarkable resurgence of Snap Inc. has become the talk of the tech town, not to mention the broader market in general, with shares up roughly 500% since this time last year on the strength of massive ad revenue and user growth. That financial zoom zoom — Snap’s current market cap currently tops $84 billion — has allowed the L.A.-based company’s top executives to live like lottery winners. Chief business officer Jeremi Gorman just bought a $15.8 million house in Hermosa Beach. And Jared Grusd, the former HuffPost CEO whose hire coincided with Gorman’s and who was originally brought on as chief strategy officer but is now a “strategic advisor” to CEO Evan Spiegel, was the buyer of a 90210 mansion that quietly sold for exactly $18 million in November 2020.

Grusd and his longtime wife Randi Kesselman actually scored a big discount on the property, which was never officially on the market but appears to have been privately marketed for $25 million by top L.A. realtors Josh and Matt Altman of Douglas Elliman.

The gated estate, completed in 2020, lies within The Summit, a guard-gated community high in the mountains between Beverly Hills and Studio City. Set privately at the end of a cul-de-sac, the property was previously owned by Jennifer Messer, the only daughter of Robert Greenberg, founder of the Skechers shoe company.

Messer bought the house in 2015 for $8.6 million; she subsequently demolished the existing 6,000-square-foot structure to construct a much larger and more lavish mansion in its place. The replacement house is big — at least 10,000 square feet of living space, with two above-ground floors plus a finished basement level with a full lounge/recreation room. The lot is big, too, with about an acre of usable land. There’s a huge swath of grassy lawn and a circular motorcourt to properly accommodate large gatherings.

Mysterious sounds, crashing noises … is Josh Altman trying to sell a haunted house on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles? Not really. Instead, it’s the seller’s three teen daughters trying to sabotage the sale because they don’t want to move. Altman is not amused. He tells the seller, “These girls are seriously ruining the showing. I don’t mind like a little playfulness, this and that, but the other brokers think that I’m wasting their time, and they’re going to have a bad taste in their mouth about it.”

Even though the series aired decades before the seller’s daughters were born, it seems as though they took a page from The Brady Bunch 1970 episode, “To Move or Not to Move.”

Josh Altman’s ‘Million Dollar Listing’ clients took a page from ‘The Brady Bunch’?

When the Brady kids complain that the house is too small, Mike Brady decides to put it on the market. But when the kids have second thoughts about moving, they sabotage the sale by making the house appear to be haunted – just like Altman’s client’s kids.

When Mike Brady finds a home where the family can move, it becomes all too real for the kids. The kids decide to go full throttle when they know a prospective buyer plans to tour their home. From Greg Brady making eerie sounds throughout the home using a tape recorder to little Bobby and Cindy Brady clad in sheets, the Brady kids make a valiant effort. In true Brady form, the buyer is sweet when she sees what is happening. While the kids get a “talking to” from Mike Brady, alls well that ends well. The Bradys stay in their house.

But ‘The Brady Bunch’ house wasn’t a multi-million dollar mansion

And while the missed sale on The Brady Bunch seemed to end without huge consequence, Altman has a lot more on the line. When he meets with homeowner Randi, he’s also greeted by her daughters Sienna, Devin, and Kendall. Altman learns they recently moved into the home and he confirmed the girls didn’t grow up in the house. So no big deal about parting ways with it, right?

Altman and Randi agree on a selling price of $8,750,000 so there’s a lot of cash on the line. Altman tells the sellers he thinks it will move quickly (like Mike Brady) and asks the girls if they will be helpful. They reply, “No!” Indeed, they are not helpful. In fact, they go full Brady when prospective buyers tour the house. Instead of tape-recorded ghost sounds and kids in sheets, the girls put signs on the doors, like “mold” and “infested with spiders.” The girls make a thudding sound. “Are you sure this place is not haunted?” the broker asks Altman. “I don’t want to mess with any spirits.” Altman replies, “The only spirits in here are vodka and tequila, but there are three little girls who rule this house.” The episode ends without a sale.

‘The Brady Bunch’ house actually sold … eventually

The iconic ‘Brady Bunch’ house ultimately sold, ending up on the market in 2018 for $1.8 million, House Beautiful reports. Of course, the home could command a million-dollar price tag due to being a landmark of pop culture memorabilia. And while the $1.8 million price tag was pretty hefty, HGTV bought the property – for $3.5 million.

The home is being used for nostalgia purposes and tours were going to commence, but haven’t quite started, likely due to the pandemic.

Josh Altman had a huge Brady Bunch type of problem with his Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles. He was hired to sell a mansion but the seller’s teenage children took a page from a throwback Brady Bunch episode and made it seem as though the house was haunted when Altman held showings. So did he finally “cleanse” the house and get it sold?

Heather Altman had the solution to resolve the ‘Brady Bunch’ haunting

Altman shared with his wife Heather Altman that his client’s three daughters scared off potential buyers. He was clearly frustrated that the girls sabotaged his showings but he wasn’t sure what to do. “The three girls, they’re ruthless,” he said. “I don’t know what to do.”

Heather Altman knew what to do. “I think that you should take them out and show them what their new house could potentially be,” she explained. “What do you do with our kids when they don’t want to do something?”

“I pretend that it’s awesome,” he replied. She then shared that he’s found his solution to the problem.

Does he convince the girls to abandon their scare strategy?

So Altman takes his wife’s advice and takes his clients house hunting. They visit a sprawling mansion and the girls are heard saying, “Oh my God, this is so cool” just in the entryway. “I know I wasn’t officially hired to find Randi [the girls’ mother] and her family a new home,” Altman said in a confessional. “But Heather was right. Show the girls what other awesome houses are out there for them. Because I’m confident I can sell Firmament and find them their new home all at the same time.”

While the home in Hollywood Hills is grand and the family likes it, Randi wants a little more. “I like this, I kinda want more of this,” Randi told Altman. “I want more land.” She added, “I want more house.” Altman concluded she wanted “this on steroids.” She agreed. “Based on her feedback, I got the perfect house for Randi and her girls,” Altman said in a confessional. “It’s in Beverly Hills. It’s off-market, it just came available. That’s like bling, bling, bling!” So did he score?

The clients move but does Josh Altman sell their house?

Altman scored big with the Beverly Hills listing. The clients all gushed about the home and the entire property when Altman showed it to them. “The greatest thing to a Realtor’s ears is hearing someone say, ‘I want that room! I want that room!'” he exclaimed in a confessional after the family toured the home. “Especially this Realtor.” Altman urged Randi to move fast since the home was still a pocket listing, but he planned to start showing it soon.

Guess who moved out of their house and stopped scaring potential buyers? Altman paid Randi and her girls a visit at the Beverly Hills home. “Randi and the girls, they fell in love with the house off of Benedict Canyon,” he explained in a confessional. “So while I was doing showings on Firmament, I was able to get them the house off Benedict [for a cool $25 million].” He added, “I mean … yeah, I’m pretty awesome. I don’t know what to say sometimes.”

Not only did the client move, but Altman also presented Randi with an offer – a lowball but she was ready to deal, but the price needed to have an $8 [million] in front of the offer. He ended up having to play hardball with his brother (who represented the buyers). But ultimately she gets her price of $8.3 million.
