What will be the concentration of a solution which is made by dissolving 36 gram of sodium chloride in hundred gram of water?

(a) To make a saturated solution, 36g of sodium chloride is dissolved in 100g of water at 293 K. Find its concentration at this temperature.

(b) What is the effect of temperature on the solubility of a solid in liquid?

(c) Why is it possible to distinguish the particles of solute from those of solvent in a suspension?

(a) Mass of solute = 36 g

     Mass of solvent = 100g

     Mass of solution = 100 + 36

                            = 136g

Concentration of solution = (Mass of solute / Mass of solution ) x100

                                   = (36/136) x 100

                                   = 26.47%

(b) If temperature increases, solubility increases and if temperature decreases, solubility decreases.

(c) Because particle size is bigger in suspensions hence it is easier to distinguish the particles of solute.
