Did you know that not all Redragon keyboards can change their backlit color? Some Redragon keyboard comes with a single standard color, while others come with a variety of color, and you can switch between them anytime you want.

Before you begin to change color on your Redragon keyboard, you have to first understand the Keyboard you have so that you can know if it supports a color change or not.

Every gamer is familiar with Redragon and providing top quality gaming keyboards with beautiful backlit colors for their users.

These backlit colors on their Keyboard have led many people to purchase the Redragon keyboard to experience playing with a colorful keyboard.

Unfortunately, many users find it difficult to change color on their Redragon keyboard, which I am also a victim.

When I got my first Redragon keyboard, I found out that it became a challenge for me to change the color, and there weren’t any instructions in the package.

This led me to some serious research on how the Redragon keyboard color works and how it can be changed.

The most important thing you should know is that each Redragon keyboard may have its own way of changing its color. There’s no universal way of doing this.

Nevertheless, I will share all my findings of the Redragon keyboard color and how you can easily change it.

Can I Change Color On My Redragon Keyboard?

It depends. Not all Redragon keyboards can change color the same way because they are different.

Understanding is key. You must first identify your Keyboard to know if it supports changing key colors or not.

Many people get confused when they cannot change their Redragon keyboard color because they don’t understand the Keyboard they use.

Understanding your Keyboard would save you a lot of time and enable you to change its settings much faster.

Redragon provides two kinds of gaming keyboards that display color.

These keyboards are:

  • RGB Keyboard.
  • Rainbow Backlit Keyboard.

Your Keyboard falls into one category among their Keyboard. Knowing the difference between the RGB and the Rainbow Backlit Redragon keyboard is key to understanding how you can change your keyboard color.

Redragon RGB Keyboard Vs. Redragon Rainbow Backlit Keyboard

After purchasing your Redragon gaming keyboard, you either got yourself an RGB keyboard or a Rainbow backlit keyboard.

In this section, we will take a look at the differences between the RGB and Rainbow backlit keyboards to know if it will be possible to change the Keyboard backlit to any color.

These are the differences:

Redragon RGB Backlit Keyboard

The Redragon RGB backlit keyboard is a programable keyboard that gives you the ability to customize each key to any color.

Every individual key on a Redragon RGB backlit keyboard has its own RGB led underneath it, leaving so much room for customization.

You can customize each individual Keyboard on your Redragon keyboard to a specific color. Every key color is totally independent of the rest of the keys because the possibilities are endless.

The RGB backlit keyboard may come with its own pre-installed preset for customization, which you can change to your liking. The preset might be solely dependent on its software.

This means that before you can change the colors on some Redragon keyboards, you would need the Redragon software on your computer. While for some other Redragon keyboards, you don’t need to install the Redragon software because the presets to change the colors are already installed in the Keyboard.

The possibilities are endless in terms of color lightings and effects on the Redragon RGB backlit keyboard. You can easily match the Redragon keyboard color to your gaming setup.

The gradient Rainbow effects are my favorite effect on the Redragon RGB backlit keyboard. The color you set will be moving from side to side like an ocean wave.

However, you can individually set each key to a specific color if that is the effect you are looking for.

In terms of color and preset effects depend primarily on the software you installed for the Keyboard or the Keyboard itself if it doesn’t need any software.

Redragon Rainbow Backlit Keyboard

The Redragon Rainbow backlit keyboard can also be referred to as a multicolored lighting keyboard. From its definition, you can tell that it is entirely different from the RGB backlit keyboard.

The Redragon Rainbow backlit keyboard is a keyboard with each row of keys already programmed to show the same color.

That means that you won’t be able to change each key to any color of your choice but use the preset color instead.

The preset colors that will come with your Redragon Rainbow backlit keyboard are pink, purple, blue, green, orange, and red.

Each of these colors are set on each rows on your Keyboard and you have no way of changing the rows to any other color.

Here’s a practical example,

On the Redragon Rainbow backlit keyboard, the first row might be set to red. The second row to blue, the third row to green, the fourth row to orange and the last row to pink

With that said, you won’t be able to change the color of each of the rows because Redragon didn’t design it to be changed.

You are basically stuck with a colored preset that you can’t really customize to match your gaming setup.

Although it does come with some Rainbow lightning effect dedicated to the rows, it is impossible in terms of changing individual keys.

Each row on the Redragon Rainbow backlit keyboard is locked to a specific color. This is why these types of Keyboard are much cheaper in the market.

Why Can’t I Change Color On My Redragon Keyboard?

What if your Redragon keyboard cannot change color or, in other words, you are unable to successfully change the backlit color of your Redragon keyboard.

There are a few reasons why you will be unable to change the colors. Let’s take a look at them.

These are the reasons:

1. Unsupported Redragon Keyboard

Not all Redragon keyboards can change their color except those supported to change their colors by default.

The Redragon RGB keyboard is the only Keyboard designed to change color because it has the RGB backlit technology.

The Redragon Rainbow doesn’t support changing color. Its colors are already fixed on each row of the Keyboard and its impossible to change.

Only the RGB version supports color change. If your Redragon keyboard cannot change color, you may have to consider switching to the RGB version.

2. Implementing Wrong Color Key Control

Another reason why you may be having challenges changing the color of your Redragon keyboard is that you may be implementing the trigger key wrong.

You may not have gotten the right key to change the keyboard color before you start implementing. For this reason, you need to know the actual key combination to input to successfully change the colors.

You should check out the guides above to properly get the right information on the correct key combination to change the keyboard color.

3. Faulty Backlighting

The Keyboard, just like any other component of a computer, gets faulty over time. Not everything is built to last, and there is a chance that your Keyboard might be going through exactly that.

Suppose you have been able to change the color of your Redragon keyboard successfully in the past but you are unable to change it recently. In that case, it means the backlighting may have been damaged.

This kind of situation for a Redragon keyboard is difficult to fix, and the best solution is to get a new Redragon keyboard that comes with the RGB feature.

4. Unsupported Software

Installing the wrong Redragon software is one of many people’s mistakes in changing their keyboard color.

Not all Redragon keyboard requires software to change the keyboard color because the preset to change the color are already built inside the Keyboard.

Some Redragon keyboards may actually require software, but you have to understand that you need to download the particular software compatible with your Redragon keyboard.

Make sure the Redragon software you download matches your Keyboard model.
