How to keep dip powder nails from lifting

Nothing can put a damper on your day like pretty powder dip nails lifting. The solution that'll keep your spirits up? Keep your dip mani adhering to your nails by becoming a prepping pro.

DIP MANI REMEDY: Proper prepping matters. Before you get excited trying on new dip nail designs—ooh, too many eye-catching options!—pay close attention to your cuticles and your nail bed. Your pre-manicure mission is to make sure you have pushed-back cuticles and an oil-free nail surface. There shouldn't be any gap or gunk between your dip powder products and your nails. Do this and... boom! Premature lifting thwarted.

How to make dip nails shiny

If your dip powder nails are looking rather dull instead of dazzling, this how-to is for you. Let's transform your manicure from blah to brilliant in no time.

DIP MANI REMEDY: Dazzling dip nails can't be rushed. You gotta allow for the recommended wait times in between coats to ensure thorough blending, hardening, and drying. If you pile on layers while they're still wet, it could result in foggy, matte-looking nails. That luscious luster you're looking for? It's mostly all about timing.

How to prevent bumpy, thick dip powder nails

Unless you're going for the "bubble nails" or the "hump nails" look, you most likely would rather keep your dip mani bump-free and not-so-thick. Us, too!

DIP MANI REMEDY: You want to have a jar of fine, smooth powder before you dip your nails in it. Old, clumpy powder is a surefire way to end up with bumpy and thick dip nails. Loosen the dip powder by shaking or stirring. You can also simply apply a thin layer of the Step 2 Dip Nail Liquid as the base layer. Then use the Base & Finish Dip Nail Powder as the top layer only. Finally, buff your dip nails down to perfection.

Want to know Why do my dip nails crack and how you can fix them easily? Read through this article!

Dip nails cracking can be caused by the improper application. Today’s episode will discuss the causes of dip nail cracking and how you can prevent it from happening again. Dip nails that crack after three weeks are a sign of a problem.

Cracking occurs when the dip Powder is not applied evenly. For clarity, I’ll tell you that cracking and breaking are two different things. A crack is when you see a line along with your dip powder nails, but a break is when the entire dip powder nail is gone.

Why your Dip Nails Could Crack

Here are some reasons your dip nails crack:

  • Dip your nails in dip powder at 90 degrees. For a smoother application, dip your fingers at 45 degrees.
  • Applying the dip powder too close to your skin is dangerous. Dip powder that comes in contact with your skin can eventually cause it to crack. Avoid this by applying your base coat at least 2mm from the skin.
  • Dip coats are either too thick or too thin. Dip nails should not crack if you use enough dip coats. This means that you need to apply 2-3 dips to get perfect coverage.
  • Over-using your nails can cause cracks in your dip nails.
  • Your dip nails can crack if you are using low-quality dip liquids. Your dip nails will crack if your dip powder is of low quality. You should also ensure you use a genuine dip powder. Some brands may try to make you buy their acrylic powder. Dip powder and acrylic powder are different things so they shouldn’t be used interchangeably.
  • The activator is being used incorrectly. It helps strengthen and cure your dip nails. Apply a generous amount of activator after every application of dip powder.
  • Your dip powder is being over buffed. You shouldn’t buff your dip-powder nails too aggressively. It is best to use sandpaper for smoother results.
  • It is not necessary to wait too long between each dip coat. It is best to wait two to three minutes between each dip coat before applying the next layer of dip powder.

There are many ways to fix cracked dip nails

  1. Fill method: This technique is most commonly used to repair cracked dip powder nails. You will need to file off the topcoat until the crack is visible. Apply your base coat to the crack. Dip your fingers in the same color dip powder, or a different one if you want a multi-colored look. For a smooth finish, apply activator and buff. Apply a top coat to seal the crack.
  2. The patch method: If you’ve lost your original dip powder or haven’t received your nails done by a professional nail technician, this method can be used. Gel polish can be used to repair the cracks in your dip powder nails. Gel polish has a thicker coverage and can be painted over cracks.
  3. The Creative Method: Covering cracks in dip powder nails with designs can create art. To cover cracks in dip powder nails, you can use nail decals or rhinestones.

Dip powder nails that aren’t cracked can be achieved by filling them properly.

  • Be sure to prep nails for long-lasting dip powder nails. Dip acrylic nails that are well prepared will last a long time.
  • To enhance the application of dip powder, file, and buff natural nails.
  • Apply a base coat to your nails and then dip them in the dip powder.
  • Allow dip powder to dry for approximately two to three minutes.
  • For more coverage, repeat the process.
  • Allow dip powder to dry for two to three more minutes.
  • Use a brush to remove any excess dip powder.
  • Apply the base coat again and dip your fingers in the dip acrylic powder to ensure consistency. A third coat is not necessary.
  • Apply the base coat to your fingers and then dip your nails in clear powder. If you’ve only applied two coats, do this.
  • Allow the activator to dry for five seconds.
  • Next, shape your desired nail shape with powder nails.
  • Wash your hands.
  • Add another layer of activator.
  • To lock everything in, apply the topcoat
  • Apply moisturizer.
