(Pocket-lint) - Sony's PlayStation 4 - a highly anticipated, next-generation console - is set to launch in just a few weeks, but the company has already released a significant software patch that will enable it to work with a companion device.

The PS Vita, Sony's popular handheld console, is that companion device. And with the newly issued PS Vita 3.00 System Update, it will work seamlessly with the PS4. Pocket-lint has taken a deep look at the software patch, and we've detailed everything you need to know below.

Additional management features in PS Vita 3.00 include the ability to sync contacts saved in email accounts from services like Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. Just go to Contact List > Options > [CardDAV Settings] > [Add CardDAV Account].

Communicating

The Friends app on PS Vita has four new tabs, and they're called Find Player on PSN, Friends, Friend Requests, and Players Blocked.

As for the Group Messaging app, it's name and icon have been changed to Messages. The layout has also been changed, so you can now send and receive messages on PS4 or any device with the PlayStation App.

Speaking of new icons, there's a redesigned one for the Party app. This app notably features voice chat and text chat with friends and players on the PS4.

Photos

A Panoramic Camera setting is included in PS Vita 3.00 for snapping panoramic photos on PS Vita. There's also a built-in motion sensor in the PS Vita for looking around the panoramic photo.

When the purchase is completed, downloading starts automatically.
To check the progress of downloading or installation, press the PS button and select the notification indicator in the upper right corner of the screen.

You can set your system so that a password is required at the time of purchase, before the purchase confirmation screen appears. The password is your account password. Select
(Options) > [Transaction Management] > [Security], and then select the [Require password at checkout] checkbox to set a checkmark.
Your system is activated automatically when you purchase or download content. The number of devices that can be activated for your account is limited and differs for each content type. If the purchase or download would exceed the activation limit for the content type, a message appears and you cannot purchase or download the content. To purchase or download this content type on your system, you must first deactivate a different device that is linked to your account and is activated. Deactivate the other device using that device, and then try again to purchase or download the content on your device.

Downloading content again

Some content can be downloaded again. Select

(Options) > [Download List], and then select [Download] next to the content that you want to download.

How do you play PS4 games on PS Vita?

On your PlayStation 4 console.

Go to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings and make sure the checkbox for Enable Remote Play is selected..

From the same menu, be sure the checkbox for Connect Directly to the PS Vita is selected..

Can PS Vita remote play all PS4 games?

You'll still be able to purchase and play PSP content that is available on the PS3 and PS Vita stores. However, you'll no longer be able to make purchases via the in-game store for PSP content. As of June 28^th 2021*, users on PlayStation Vita will no longer be able to use the messaging service.
