In this book, popular Fuji Rumors "X-Pert Corner" columnist Rico Pfirstinger teaches about the little-known capabilities of the X-T10, which he’s discovered through months of in-depth research and experimentation with the camera. After a brief overview of the camera’s basic functions, Rico cuts to the chase and provides a plethora of tips and practical instructions not found in the user's manual. With this knowledge, you will be able to fully exploit the capabilities of the X-T10. The Fujifilm X-series cameras have amazing features but may require an adjustment period for those new to using these cameras, even photographers who have been lifetime DSLR shooters. This guide will help you to quickly feel comfortable using your camera so that you can achieve excellent results. Topics covered include:
NOTE: This book is also suitable for users of the X-E2 (firmware 4) and the new X-E2S Where to start? Well firstly let me say that I am full of admiration for individuals that write and self publish. I’m lucky enough to own self published novels, reference books and non-fiction works of real quality. Regrettably, while does contain some helpful tips, this self published “Instructional Guide” isn’t real quality. To fully list the shortcomings would probably take more characters than are available in an Amazon review so let me pick out a few. Firstly, the “Guide” looks like it was written by a teenager who failed English in school. The standard of English is appalling and the guide clearly hasn’t been copy read prior to publication. Some sentences just don’t make any sense at all. Let’s take an example from the Introduction “Arguably, Novice photographers(Shooters) will go an extra mile to limit my budget on their camera body, and a bit more on the lenses they will be utilising with it instead”. While I think I get the gist of what the author is trying to say the sentence actually makes very little sense! Another quick example? Oh go on then. In the Tweak Your Buttons chapter we come across this little beauty “Frankly, I had not twerkec each of the functions not until some days back” poor start, but then he goes on “as I discovered Fuji’s default design to be just acceptable for my taste . Afterward, i had my seat for a drink with a staunch friend of mine who showed me his design. I discovered one superb clue from this.” It’s English Jim but not as we know it. That’s one of the many problems with this guide, it’s pretty much a word salad. The guide claims to be for “beginners” however, some of the explanations of the technical elements often aren’t detailed or down to earth enough for a novice. The author assumes a level of knowledge in his readers that many may not have The presentation of the guide is wanting too. With respect to word and paragraph spacing there is very little consistency. Some sub-titles are in bold some not. The screen shot illustrations are all out of focus.......I could go on more about presentation, but why bother? There’s another problem, just as guide begins to get going on the technicalities of the camera......it ends. No conclusions, no wrap up, just a full stop - end of guide. It’s like the author just got bored and pootled off to do something else. So, if you own an X-T10 (I do) or are thinking of buying one (go on, it is a great camera) I’d probably steer clear of this guide. You’re not going to learn much from it that can’t be gleaned from some of the excellent uTube tutorials that are out there. However, if you’re an English teacher I would recommend the guide as a copy reading exercise for your students (it’ll keep them busy for ages).
