TikTok

Oh TikTok! You don't half introduce us to some weird and wonderful new 'wellness trends', do you? From the flimsier ones, such as a colour-based personality test and err, splinting (we won't get into that now...), to genuinely useful tips on dealing with anxiety, there's never a dull day on the app.

Now, there's a tonne of buzz around the 369 Manifestation Method, which one expert explains is a bit like mixing the principles of The Secret (you know, the best-selling book it seems like every Silicon Valley CEO credits their success to) and the Law of Attraction - the pseudoscience that claims practicing positive or negative thoughts will bring positive or negative experiences into your life.

To understand the trend, first it's important to get to the basics of what 'manifestation' itself is all about. "Manifestation is essentially about cultivating something tangible, through positive thought, belief, intent and action," explains says Ingrid Asoni, founder of Consciously Connected Travel (and guru in all things wellness-related).

"Manifestation isn’t just thinking about what you want, you also have to be proactive in harvesting a life - complete with an energetic space and actions - that are reflective of the positive desires you want to manifest."

As for the 369 Manifestation Method, Asoni says, "It's basically a repackaged version of The Secret and the foundational theory of The Law of Attraction. The simple principles of the Law of Attraction centre on what you put out being ultimately what you attract back."

She adds, "[The idea is] if you ground your mind, intent and actions in love, harmony, positivity and things of that nature, then you begin to cultivate and attract those things in return." So essentially, you can't just think your way to becoming a billionaire or Hinge icon, but spending time thinking about how you might be able to achieve those goals can be helpful for sticking to a path of self-improvement.

Asoni, who offers manifestation classes herself, goes on to say that 369 Manifestation is centred on numerology too, and the power and significance that numbers hold and play in spirituality and astrologically.

"When looking at 369 Manifestation, for instance, the number 3 has long been associated with our human connection to the universe and the source," she says. "Whereas 6 reflects the power and strength and the source that resides within us, while 9 reflects release, relinquish, growth and change allowing us to let go, heal, move past and restore." All of which are themes linking back to manifesting your way to a better future.

People can focus their manifestation on anything from increasing their confidence, to having more success in the dating department or boosting their finances – all of which a shedload of TikTok users are claiming they've seen success with. Some have even said they've reunited with an ex-partner or former friend by using the 369 method specifically, for example by writing their ex's name three times, their intention six times and then an action nine times (e.g. Sam x 3, We will get back together x 6, He will text me x 9).

It's not only 369 Manifestation that's popularity has soared in recent months either – stats show there’s been a 15,492% increase in Google searches for 'manifestation methods' in the past year.

How can I do 369 Manifestation?

Embarking on 369 Manifestation is pretty simple, Asoni shares. "First thing in the morning after your alarm goes off, write down what you're trying to manifest three times, then in the afternoon repeat it six times and in the evening before bed write it nine times. The repeated consistency, frequency and intention will start to take root within and over time you'll begin to embody what it is that you are writing."

As noted though, TikToke users are also trying other ways of manifesting and using the numbers 3, 6 and 9 (see the aforementioned 'willing your ex to reach out' example), so it kind of seems open to interpretation.

Asoni agrees that fundamentally anything that is consistently done over an extended period of time will helps with fostering a sense of calm, purpose and comfort within that action. "It also supports in creating an element of balance and consistency within our energetic source," she points out.

"Those elements alone support you in feeling better, in being more productive, in harnessing more clarity to be able to shift through daily life and obstacles. Cultivating a healthy and harmonious space within yourself will always create a positive rippling effect externally."

She also recommends repeating these actions at the same time each day, after a simple grounding meditation session, as that will support in calming and stilling the mind and body, clearing any blockages and creating a harmonious space to really set a strong intention for what you are trying to manifest. "Manifestation works best the more clear and concise you are, meditation helps to nurture that space to bring that to the fore."

As for why she believes manifestation methods have seen an increase in popularity of late, Asoni says it could be down to the pandemic leaving everybody with a sense of unease and in search of stability. "In this current climate, people are looking for a safe space that they feel they are able to control and rationalise when everything else around them is beyond their control."

There are plenty of ways to start manifesting your desires, from making vision boards to working with the law of attraction. One method, in particular, that's been getting its fair share of attention lately is the 369 method, and it couldn't be easier to do.

After learning what it is and how to do it, I decided to give it a spin to see if it really works. Here's what happened.

The 369 method involves writing down what you'd like to manifest three times in the morning, six times during the day, and nine times in the evening.

This method rose to popularity on TikTok (naturally), with videos under the hashtag "369method" amassing over 165 million views combined. You don't have to look hard to find folks on the app claiming the technique has helped them manifest new relationships, large sums of money, and more.

It was the renowned inventor Nikola Tesla who first thought three, six, and nine were powerful numbers for manifesting in the 20th century. Spiritual adviser Diana Zalucky tells mbg that "he believed these divine numbers were the key to unlocking the universe."

Numbers aside, the 369 practice tracks with the law of attraction, which states that we tend to attract what we give our attention to.

Hypnotist and author of Wishcraft Shauna Cummins adds that by focusing on what you desire, especially in such a consistent way, you might help your brain "find what it's looking for, and therefore [become] more likely to magnetize your desires into action."

The significance of the numbers.

Zalucky explains that the 369 method couples numerology and the law of attraction. Here's the significance of every number in the sequence:

369 manifestation method step by step

  • 3 represents our connection to source or the universe, and our creative self-expression
  • 6 represents our inner strength and harmony
  • 9 represents our inner rebirth (as in letting go of what no longer serves us and changing into who we are becoming)

How do you manifest using the 369 method?

Before getting started, you'll of course want to figure out what exactly it is you want to manifest. Once you're clear on that, it's time to come up with an affirmation. (For example, if you wanted to manifest money, your affirmation could be "I will receive a large sum of money.")

Here's what you'll do from there:

  1. Write down your affirmation three times as soon as you wake up in the morning.
  2. Write down your affirmation six times during the afternoon.
  3. Write your affirmation nine times before you go to bed.

Keep in mind, this method (and any method of manifesting, for that matter) is much more likely to work if you take action, too.

As Zalucky explains, "Do not make this list and sit pretty at home not doing anything about it. You are co-creating with the universe." After you get started, look out for chances to take action like opportunities, invitations, or divine downloads leading you toward a particular place or person.

If you're wondering whether the 369 method really works, so was I—which is why I had to give it a try myself. I wanted to start with something simple and positive, so I decided my affirmation would be, "I am filled with gratitude every day."

Now, I can't speak to whether this method will actually get a love interest to text you or land you a raise at work, but I can say that writing down that I was filled with gratitude did make me feel good.

After doing the 369 method for about a week, I noticed I was consistently feeling more positive and found myself noticing things I was grateful for throughout the day.

Now, it's as if my brain is looking for things to be grateful for, to reinforce that subconscious belief I've been instilling. Pretty cool stuff—and in my mind, it's good evidence that there's power in giving certain thoughts more attention than others.

If you're looking to manifest something in your life, the simple 369 method may be worth a shot. When we narrow our focus on the things we want to attract and take aligned action to get there, we absolutely can manifest great things—and the right numbers can only help.
