Never Settle: The First Ever SIG Hunter Games

Never Settle: The First Ever SIG Hunter Games

The inaugural SIG HUNTER GAMES are in the in the books!  What an event!

The Games took place over four days on the Queen Mountain Guest Ranch in Wyoming.

The scored competition was two days.  Ten teams of three competitors along with a Range Safety Officer moved through the Wyoming mountains on the clock.

The course of fire was set up by Daniel Horner, formerly of the Army Marksmanship Unit and now a SIG SAUER Pro Shooter – one of, if not THE best multi-gun shooter in the world.  Shots ranged from 70 to 1000 yards.

We had a blast on the course and Valentina absolutely CRUSHED IT!  I simply can’t say enough great things about her.  Such an amazing person!  I have so much respect for her both in and out of the Octagon.

Each team was paired with a professional hunting guide.  Valentina and I were so fortunate to work with Brian Sanders of Oregon Backcountry Outfitting.  If you want to chase big elk in Oregon, Brian is your man!

Our RSO (Range Safety Officer) was the legendary Kevin Holland.  Those in certain circles will know the name, the background, and what he has done for our nation at the very tip of the special operations spear. . . in both the Navy and the Army.  Honored to spend time with him.

Together we made up TEAM MAVERICK.

How did we do? Second place in a field of awesome competitors.

Humbled to have been invited and to have been a part of it.  Thank you SIG SAUER for making this happen!

Matt Light and Adam Laroche

Jason Wright and Tom Taylor

I’ve been using Schnee’s Boots for over a decade now and absolutely love them.  This was the first time I’d used their Kestrel’s and it certainly will not be the last!  AWESOME!

We used bino packs from Alaska Guide Creations. I really liked having access to a pistol in a kydex holster under the bino pack.

Our packs were the 4800s from EXO MTN GEAR and I was extremely impressed.  I’m a “backpack guy” and have been going into the backcountry, using / testing packs since before Tom Clancy published The Hunt for Red October. . . I’ll be using these packs again.

And, each competitor is going home with a Special Edition SIG Hunter Games CROSS Rifle along with a full set of my novels.  You may notice that even I have a hard time finding THE TERMINAL LIST in hardcover. . .

Already looking forward to next year!  I “call” same Teams!
