What is minecraft snapshot

The newest Minecraft Snapshot is out, and this year's April Fool's joke has done something a little unusual -- Mojang had removed the inventory from the game.

Minecraft Snapshots are often the first chance the community gets to try out new features before they hit the live version of the game. Recent additions include the "Place Feature" command and Frogs. Now, the latest Snapshot has arrived... and things have gotten a bit weird. Check out this "leaked presentation" from Mojang for some background:

The new Minecraft Snapshot -- which Mojang hilariously enables by default on the Minecraft Launcher -- removes the inventory, therefore only allowing you to hold one block at a time (per the silly tagline).

One has to wonder -- how do you craft? How do you do anything? I haven't the slightest idea after a few minutes of experimentation, but I'm sure someone will figure things out before the end of the day. There won't be much time, though; April Fool's Snapshots only stick around for a day.

Jokes aside, this new Snapshot does add some interesting features. Players can now throw blocks by looking up in the air and right-clicking. The blocks will land on the ground and place properly, too. One hopes that we'll actually see this feature added in the live game.

TechRaptor can exclusively report the shocking news that you can actually hold two blocks by pressing F.

Also Arriving: Minecraft Snapshot 22w13a

The new April Fool's Snapshot wasn't the only recent addition to the game. Minecraft Snapshot 22w13a has also arrived, introducing Ancient Cities and the new Allay mob.

Allys are fairy-like creatures that can be found in Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansions. If you hand them an item, they will fly around and collect all of the surrounding items that match it. Best of all, they'll actually bring these items to the player. If this all works out, we may have another way to do automated harvesting.

Also arriving in this Snapshot are the new Ancient City structures in the Deep Dark biome. These structures hold the new Swift Sneaking enchantment and some new goodies inside, but you'll have to get by Sculk Sensors and Shriekers to get this new loot.

You can play the April Fool's Minecraft Snapshot by loading up the launcher for one day only. After that, you can check out the new content in Minecraft Snapshot 22w13a; check out the full patch notes for all the fine details. If you haven't yet played the game, you can buy Minecraft Java Edition for PC at the price of $26.95 or your regional equivalent.

With Minecraft's 1.17 update expected to be released during the summer of 2021, there is a lot of talk about "Snapshots" in the game's community.

Snapshots and the reasoning behind their releases throughout the production of a new update are crucial for Minecraft's seamless development. There's so much to look into when it comes to Snapshots, so here is a look into what they are, what players can use them for, and how to access them using the Java Edition.

What are Minecraft Snapshots?

In essence, Minecraft Snapshots are mini releases of upcoming updates that contain aspects of the content to be released with the final version.

Some Snapshots may be larger and more substantial, containing a new mob, biome, or generated structure. Others are smaller and act as miniature releases, with blocks or items for players to explore.

These releases are vital to the progression of Minecraft because they allow the company to take an accurate reading of how players enjoy each aspect they're adding to the game. It also provides a free version of bug testing, as players will discover small glitches throughout the Snapshots and report them to Minecraft to fix.

The most recent Snapshot for Minecraft was Snapshot 21w06a, and so far, there have been nine Snapshots purely for update 1.17. It's normal for Minecraft to release close to, or more than, twenty Snapshots for a single update.

What can players do with Snapshots?

Snapshots are an excellent way for players to acclimatize themselves to the newly added aspects of Minecraft in a gradual, step-by-step manner.

Snapshots continue to work throughout complete playthroughs, so many players like to start a new world off and work their way through the Snapshots as they're released. This works perfectly for those who want to slowly work their worlds into the latest update once it is released.

How can players access Snapshots?

Minecraft Snapshots are accessible through the 'installations' tab at the top of the launching window.

From there, players can not only access the most recent Snapshot, but all of the Snapshots and versions ever released for the game.

It's best to run Snapshots as a different game entirely rather than merge it with the current update because Snapshots are still in development and have the possibility of corrupting the world save files if combined.

Players can either click to use the latest Snapshot or access an archive of all of the past game releases — full updates and Snapshots. Even Alpha and Beta versions of the game are included in the list.

There's a lot to explore through the installations tab if players wish to explore.
