Pretty little liars who is a in the book

The Pretty Little Liars series is a tangled web of murder, trickery, and all-out backstabbing (both literal and otherwise) and the TV show definitely stays true to that.

But even if you've read all 16 books, you might still not know what's going to happen in the show, 'cause there are some huge changes. Here are the ten biggest things that the show got wrong.

***BEWARE, SPOILERS AHEAD***

More From Seventeen

1. The liars are not friends.

After Alison dies in 8th grade, the foursome drifts apart. But being stalked by an all-knowing anonymous texter bent on ruining their lives eventually brings the girls back together, as these things do.

2. Caleb doesn't exist.

Sorry Haleb shippers, the on-screen couple was never a thing, nor was Caleb himself. Hanna dates Mike Montgomery, Aria's little brother, for most of the series and they're actually a pretty cute couple.

3. Ezria only lasts for like three chapters.

At the beginning of their relationship, the show stays pretty true to the books: The two meet at a dive bar, thanks to Aria's fake ID, and have a steamy makeout sesh. Then they realize that Ezra is actually Aria's teacher, but continue to date anyway.

The romance only lasts a few chapters, before A turns Mr. Fitz in to the police, who come charging into his apartment and arrest him. He returns nine books later to make out with a foreign exchange student (yep, another high schooler) and then peaces out, never to be heard from again. Thank god – he was a total creep.

4. Instead, Aria dates Noel Kahn for most of the books.

I can hear you gasping all the way from here, but don't let Noel's TV doucheyness fool you – he's actually a great guy in the books. Punky Aria secretly nursed a blazing crush on Noel for years. She didn't think a ~cool jock~ like him would ever be into an Iceland-loving, pink-hair-having girl like her, but they fall madly in love becoming the cutest couple of the series, hands down.

5. Mona dies.

Just like in the show, Hanna's BFF Mona Vanderwaal is the first A. But as soon as the liars find out, Mona falls down a rock quarry and dies.

6. Toby also dies – and he's a terrible person.

After Alison catches him peeping through her window and sexually abusing his step-sister Jenna, she blackmails Toby Cavanaugh into taking the fall for blinding Jenna (Alison actually did it). Toby confesses to the one crime he didn't commit and is sent away to boarding school. He comes back years later and starts a little fling with Emily (nope, not Spencer, sorry). He plays a pretty minor role until he evntually kills himself.

7. Oh, and Jenna dies too.

She was murdered, like everyone else in Rosewood. Also, her last name is Cavanaugh, not Marshall.

8. Charlotte "Cece" Drake is actually Courtney DiLaurentis, who is pretending to be Alison DiLaurentis.

Confused? Okay, so this is basically the whole plot of the books: Ali has a twin sister named Courtney, and Ali, who actually is crazy, frames Courtney for being is crazy, because she's jealous of her. Their parents send her to a psychiatric hospital (enter, Radley), but one summer while Courtney is home on a visit, she pulls a switcharoo and Alison is sent back to Radley in her place.

To get revenge on Alison for ruining her life, Courtney (pretending to be Alison) ditches Alison's ~popular~ girl gang and becomes BFFs with less-popular Hanna, Spencer, and Aria. Alison eventually gets out of Radley, kills her sister (who is found dead and believed to be Alison), and takes on the role of A, once Mona vacates the throne.

So no, Cece doesn't abduct them and keep them in the "doll house." There's no Red Coat. And Sara Harvey doesn't exist either.

9. There's no five-year jump.

Literally that entire plot never happens. No Radley makeover (it's still up and running in the books), no Lucas' fancy apartment (he and Hanna dated in the books, then broke up), and definitely no Spaleb (thank god).

10. Emily gets pregnant.

In the books, Emily dates both guys and girls. She's still in love with Ali (rest assured, Emison fans) and also dates Maya St. Germain, along with a total jerk named Ben and then Isaac, who gets her pregnant. She has the baby in secret, then gives it up for adoption.
