How to refund epic games

What to Know

  • You can get an Epic Games Store refund if you made the purchase within the last 14 days and had less than 2 hours of playtime recorded.
  • You can get a refund on any game meeting these requirements, but not for skins, coins, and other consumables.
  • On the Epic Games website: Account > Transactions > Purchase History, select the game to be refunded and select Request a Refund.

This article provides instructions for getting a refund from the Epic Games Store, including information on what games can be refunded and other requirements to request a refund.

How to Get an Epic Games Store Refund

There are two requirements to get a refund on a purchase from the Epic Games Store,

  • You must have purchased the game in the last 14 days.
  • You must have played the game for two hours or less.

If your purchase meets these requirements, then you can request a refund.

You must go to the website to request a refund for purchases. Refunds cannot be processed through the Epic Games Launcher.

Navigate to the Epic Games site and login to your Epic Games account.

Hover over your Profile image in the upper right corner of the screen.

Select Account from the menu.

The Account page will automatically open to the General Settings options. In the left navigation bar, select Transactions.

The Transactions page automatically opens to Purchase History. Select the name of the game to be refunded.

A menu appears below the name of the game. Select Request Refund.

A Request Refund dialog box appears with the game’s name and the order ID at the top. Use the dropdown menu provided to select a reason for requesting the refund. Your options are:

  • I Am Unable To Play This Title.
  • I Can Not Run This Title On My Computer.
  • I Did Not Enjoy The Title.
  • I Purchased This Title On Accident.
  • Other

Once you’ve selected a reason, click Confirm Refund.

It may take a few moments for the request to process; then, you’ll return to your Purchase History, where you should see a confirmation that Epic Games has processed your refund.

If you request a refund and then change your mind, you can cancel your refund request by replying to the email from Epic Games support confirming it. Doing this only works if they haven’t already processed the refund.

Once the Epic Games Store has processed your refund, it could take a few days for the money to be returned to your account. Epic Games will automatically apply it to the account you used to purchase the game, and the speed of the refund will depend mainly on the bank backing your payment method.

Tips for Requesting a Refund in the Epic Games Store

When you’re requesting a refund for an Epic Games Store purchase, there are a few other things to keep in mind:

  • If you purchased the game through another outlet, Epic Games won’t refund it. You’ll have to return to the original place of purchase to get a refund if that outlet grants refunds.
  • The Epic Games Store marks some games as non-refundable. You cannot get a refund for these games.
  • If you have been banned from a game or violated the Epic Games Terms of Service, you will be ineligible for a refund.
  • If your original payment method cannot be refunded, someone from the Support team will contact you to determine an alternate way of refunding your purchase amount.

One of the more hotly debated entities in the world of PC gaming over the last few years the Epic Games Store has certainly been making a name for itself in recent years, be it from its never-ending line-up of free games or continued push for platform-specific exclusivity deals for major releases.

One of the least discussed topics regarding the Epic Games Store, however, is their refund policy; with some people not knowing that one is available. Here's what we know about it.

How To Refund a Game on the Epic Games Store

The process for requesting a refund on the Epic Games Store is a little more complicated than other platforms like Steam, with Epic requiring a few steps to get the refund process underway. The system is still nicer than the ones in place for Xbox and PlayStation however.

The first thing we'll be covering is how to submit a refund request yourself if you're eligible. To do this, head to your account page on the Epic website where you will be greeted with your information and a series of options on the left.

Click the "Transactions" tab on the left of the screen and look for the game you wish to refund. Once you find it, click the game to open it up and if it's eligible for a refund, you should be able to see a request refund button.

If the button is there, click it and then pick an option in the pop-up window that you encounter and that's all there is to it, just confirm your refund and you're done.

Much like the Steam store policy, the Epic Game Store refund policy only accepts titles with less than two hours of playtime and within a 14-day window of the initial purchase. The main difference is that, unlike Steam, you'll need to go through a different process to try and get a refund for games not eligible.

The second method of getting a refund from the Epic Game Store isn't guaranteed but it's the only option available for purchased items that don't meet their criteria. To do this, visit their help page and click on the blue contact us button. Then send a support ticket explaining the issue and why you would like a refund for your purchase. It's not the best solution but hopefully, you can find what you're looking for that way if no other options are available.
