How to stream the Media Composer video over the internet using NDI
Here's a quick guide on how to use NDI to stream/cast over the Internet using normal video conferencing application like Teams, Zoom, Skype, Discord, OBS with NewTek NDI Tools.
Last Updated : July 24, 2021
Products Affected : Media Composer, Media Composer Ultimate, Media Composer Enterprise
In
the example below, the NDI Tools, and video conferencing application was installed on a separate Windows laptop with no Media Composer installed, and the Media Composer was running on a MacBook Pro.
On the Media Composer system (Win or Mac):
NDI is available in Media Composer 2018.7 and newer.
The Media Composer NDI functionality is installed automatically during installation of Media Composer unless you disabled it during installation.
You might need to re-install Media
Composer again if you can't find the OpenIO_NDI option.
To enable NDI streaming out from Media Composer, right-click the HW/SW icon and check that the OpenIO_NDI is enabled.
Click the HW/SW button. The arrow should be blinking red when it's
streaming.
Warning! When you are streaming with NDI any system on the "local network" can connect and view/record the stream!
On the system running the chat/communication program (Win):
Download the latest free NDI Tools from NewTek from here:
//ndi.tv/tools/
Install the NDI Tools on the Windows computer that also has the video conferencing application/streaming app installed.
Examples:
After Installing the NDI Tools, launch the (NDI) Virtual
Input
Then right-click the icon in the taskbar, and select the Media Composer computer that is streaming the playback
In the example below there is only one system (MacBook Pro) that is streaming
out.
On the same system you launch the preferred video conferencing application, and set video and audio to be the NewTek NDI Video stream:
Zoom
Example:
Discord Example:
After this has been setup, you can just run your video conferencing application like normal with one or
many users.
Enable the camera and audio feed just like you would with a webcam, the other people in the same chat should see the NDI stream.
The quality will be dependent of what bandwidth you have, and what app you use.
Note: You could potentially install the NDI Tools and chat/communication client on the Media Composer system, and run all on just one computer, but the chat/communications client and the NDI Virtual Input will take some CPU/GPU/RAM resources, so to
save up resources it's better to use two systems.
Note2: If you have two computers on the same network, and you just want to Play from Media Composer, and view on some other clients, then you just enable NDI on Media Composer, then Install NDI Tools on the other, run NDI Studio Monitor, and set the Input to be the Media Composer system. This works on both Mac and Windows.

How do I stream to NDI?
Adding NDI sources to OBS
You can bring NDI video sources into OBS using the “NDI Source” option available in the sources menu. This allows you to name the NDI source and search through a list of available NDI sources on your network.
These applications include Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Prelude, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe SpeedGrade. NDI® for Adobe Creative Cloud is: Compatible with Adobe After Effects® CC, Premiere® Pro CC, and more. Supports full-resolution, real-time video with audio, and transparency.
Login to your camera's web interface. Navigate to Configuration -> NDI and check the box for NDI Enable. Choose an NDI Name that will be easily recognizable and set your NDI Group, if desired. Click Save and reboot the camera.
